10 Feb Drug from Colombia to Salerno, awaiting the extradition of Chief Rasgao
The decision of the Supreme Court of Justice of Colombia and the Ministry of Justice for the extradition to Italy of the head of Colombian drug trafficking Rafael Ivan Zapata Cuadros, called Rasgao, the 64-year-old paramilitary linked to the terrorist group of the United Self-Defense Forces of Colombia accused of import more than 3 tons of cocaine to Italy.
The Catanzaro court awaits the response of the Colombian authorities to which the first request was made already in 2011.
The name of Rasgao, defended by lawyers Alexandro Maria Tirelli and Yessica Troncoso Márquez, emerged as part of the “Takeoff” carried out in 2005 by Dda de Catanzaro, which revealed a vast and branched international traffic of cocaine-type drugs, carried out throughout the world for a transnational association composed of Colombians, Italians, Spaniards, Venezuelans and Australians.
On March 22, 2013, the magistrate of Catanzaro ordered the indictment before the Vibo Valentia court by a series of defendants, including the Colombian drug dealers "Rasgao", but since he was already detained in prison in Colombia and, therefore, cannot participate because of the legitimate impediment, the trial was suspended pending extradition. The next hearing is scheduled for May 20.
The investigation revealed links in Europe with a subgroup of the Castillo Rico cartel, in addition to the seizure of 255 kilos of cocaine in the port of Hamburg, another 242 kilos of cocaine in the port of Gioia Tauro (January 2004), 2,591 kilos of the same substance on board the fishing vessel «Alexandra» off the coast of the Canary Islands (June 2003).
In this activity, Cuadros Zapata was «promoter, director, organizer and financier of the association». Another import of 541 kilos of cocaine into Italy arrived at the port of Salerno on April 3, 2002 and flowed to the Catanzaro process, accusing Rasgao.
Against him, the statements of Bruno Fuduli, former collaborator of justice and former infiltrator of the Carabinieri del Ros de Catanzaro, who on November 19, 2019 was found dead by suicide in his home in Vibo Valentia.
Thanks to his statements, in 2004 the Catanzaro PDD was able to conclude the “Takeoff” operation that led to hundreds of arrests between Venezuela, Colombia, Australia and several Italian regions.
"We are waiting for the decisions of the Supreme Court of Justice of Colombia and the Ministry of Justice," lawyer Alexandro Maria Tirelli of International Lawyers Associates told ANSA, who has doubts about the possibility of using the confessions of a suicide regretful.
Meanwhile in jail they will have to verify if Italy's request for extradition is legitimate without it being possible to take my client's main accuser to court concludes the famous criminal lawyer Alessandro María Tirelli.
