11 Feb The woman accused of murdering her husband was bought as a wife at the age of 14
The defense of Assunta Casella points to the mitigating circumstances in the second degree: "He bought practically for 500 thousand lire and then abused for 45 years, even forcing them to prostitute themselves."
"When she was 14 years old and lived in Calabria with her family, she was literally bought, for five hundred thousand lire, by the man who, after taking her to Piedmont, took her as his wife and forced her into a very hard life."
It is the background, as has been said today about the defense in the Court of First Instance of Turin, the yellow of Paroldo (Cuneo), the discovery of the lifeless body of Severino Viora, 78, in a hazelnut forest, near home.
When he was 14 years old and lived in Calabria with his family, he was bought literally, for five hundred thousand lire.
That death is attributed to his sexagenaria wife, Assunta Casella, sentenced in the first instance to 21 years and 3 months. According to her lawyer, Marina Bisconti, the woman was bought by her future husband, who mistreated her and forced her into prostitution.
Visconti raised doubts about the reconstruction of the prosecution and about Casella's real responsibilities in the murder, but also asked that in the case of conviction, the defendant be granted mitigating circumstances.
Attorney General Nicoletta Quaglino disagreed and proposed the life sentence: "The events of 45 years ago do not justify extenuating circumstances."
According to the prosecution, Viora was sedated with a sleeping pill, the Zolpidem, and was then taken to the hazelnut tree.
